This review is from: Abu Garcia 5500C3 Ambassadeur C3 Baitcast Round Reel (3 Ball-Bearing, Gear Ratio 5.3:1, Capacity 12/205, Right - handed) (Sports) This is my standard jigging reel for stripers, salmon, and rock cod. I have caught plenty of big fish on this and it never disappoints. I put 20# mono on this reel for the type of fishing I do. The all metal body and durable build quality make this reel very tough. I also like the level wind that moves the line back and forth even when the drag is working, unlike other reels where the level wind guide stays stationary which may cause the line to break on a big fish. I also like the smooth drag and good line capacity this reel has. As for casting, it is not too bad either. It is not the best for casting though, but not the worst. I use my Curado for that. I have this newer version of the 5500 that has the instant anti-reverse clutch. This is a big improvement over the older versions from long ago. Amazon seems to have the best price for this with the free shipping too. To me, this is the best reel for the money that can take on big fish. It was recommended to me by many generations of anglers. It is old school but works very well and is tough as nails. As always Amazon has the best price. For the money it is hard to find another reel with better quality. I am new to baitcasters and learning how to cast takes some time. It doesn't seem to be the best caster but there are ways to adjust the brake internally(lots of stuff online). This helped take some drag off casting ligter rigs. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a solid, long lasting reel who doesn't need tons of features.
