s2500, July 1, 2010 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Ardent S2500 Spinning Reel (Sports) I got this reel because its made in america and i feels like it, machine work is nice, smooth action, bail and drag are excellent. It is a little heavy but not by much compared to other reels of the same price I assume the extra weight comes from a thicker casting of its main body...put this real to work at fort peck MT last week and it handled well. I paired this reel with a american made St Croix premier 6ft 6" rod and lost my mind with how well they paired. This reel can cast with the best of them and trust me I have 300$ china reals that dont cast as nice, pitching jigs and spoons landed me over 50 fish that week along with a few that would have stripped thouse cheap chine train recks...dont be afraid to spend an extra $30 clams for this reel you get a great warranty a well built reel and you feel good that your fishing american water with american gear.

LIKED THE PADDING ON THE MOUNTING SHOE AND THE HANDLE WAS ERGONOMICALLY CORRECT. VERY QUITE AND HANDLED BRAIDED LINE WITH NO PROBLEM. I ALSO LIKED THE PLATING ON THE BAIL BUT WILL HAVE TO USE IT MORE TO CHECK THE WEAR. IS MADE IN USA

American-made isn't enough, June 26, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Ardent S2500 Spinning Reel (Sports) I ordered an S2500 a few weeks back from Amazon; just coming out of the box I noticed a couple things that seemed wrong for a $159 MSRP reel. The chrome plated end cover was not square or flush with the reel body, and seemed to be cheaply made, at least in comparison with the aluminum reel body itself. The silver paint job on the reel body itself was a little tacky, not quite gummy enough that I could leave a fingerprint in it, but tacky enough that it could have been scraped off with a fingernail. And there was a flaw in the paint, big enough that it should have been noticeable to any inspector, like hair or a metal shaving on one side.
When I began to turn the handle after tightening it up to observe and listen to the reel's operation, I was surprised to hear a little chiming rubbing sound at about every four turns of the bail and at the lowest oscillation of the spool.
